In reply to the discussion: Gun Nuts to Build 2,000 Acre Citadel in Idaho’s American Redoubt [View all]The decisive battle of Cesar's Gaul-campaign. The Gauls, led by Vercingetorix, holed up against the Romans in a heavily defended fortress.
The Gauls expected a massive Roman onslaught. Every day they readied themselves for war and put on war-paint.
What did Cesar do? His army built their own fortifications (mainly tranches), completely surrounding the fortress, and simply waited for them to run out of food.
In the end, it was the Gauls who attacked first.
It was a pitched battle, but in the end the gaulic freedom-fighters were defeated by the disciplined and battle-hardened war-machine that was the Roman Army.
