And it is not because of what they might do, but what they might say. They can and will give devastating testimony from personal observation, and they will back each other up, once able to.

The way to read all this need for control is as a sign of perceived weakness in their position examined in the light of day, and they know that quite well. The government fears no "smoke detectors" far more than they fear discovered "smoke detectors", and no little red lights more than angry judges.
