The Oil wells, from which the Majority of natural Gas & Liquid gasses come from in ND, are BY LAW, only allowed to flare for one year, or less, depending on the availability of a Gas collection terminal, or separation device. these ARE REQUIRED. so the study has a few flaws. Please, DO check out the North Dakota Mineral resources website for some FACTS. I doubt that the flaring total is actually a third, over the life of the well, but Well drilling is going on like gangbusters at this moment, so that number will most surely be reduced in the future. Gas & Oil pipeline infrastructure is also increasing by leaps & bounds out there, so again, wasteful flaring doesn't have any excuse, but corporate laziness, to continue.
