4. Actually they don't

I actually watch the financial shows, read a lot of books on economics, classes etc., not because I am in it to get rich (ha ha), but because I want to understand all points of view. They beat up on Silicon Valley any chance they get because they do treat their employees well, because they choose to stay in a state with higher taxes, and they praise companies that squeeze employees. They have no choice but to begrudgingly applaud them when many report record profits every quarter. You want to see a stock go up, just let them announce they are firing 10K employees. You should have heard them scoff when Google did an across the board 10% raise for all their employees, early in the recovery. So, I have to disagree that Wall Street praises them... only because investing in them makes them money so they have to compliment them... but it isn't like they do the for the ones that are ruthless.

I personally make it a point to invest in stocks that everyone on Wall Street hates because they aren't doing enough to "cut costs" (meaning pay badly or force more productivity out of the employees they haven't fired) and so far, knock on wood, every one does really well in the end. I believe happy employees make a difference in making a company successful.

That is why Silicon Valley thrives, because even employees get to own stock and share in profits, especially in the start ups.
