(26,083 posts)German economist/banker/politician Hjalmar Horace Greely Schacht put together an influential group of bankers to form the Bank of International Settlements/BIS to lessen the imposed economic effects of starting WWI being felt by all German citizens.
What I intend to do in this post is to connect more "hidden" historic people and events together in the context of Operation PAPERCLIP and its tremendous influence on the development and policies of the US national security community.

One of Schacht's primary partners in the foundation of BIS was Gates W. McGarrah (1st BIS President and Chairman of the Board April 1930-May 1933).

Otto Skorzeny was a legendary SS military leader (who later helped form the ODESSA and Werewolves networks). He was captured, went to trial (1947), was acquitted and then held in an Allied prison camp at Darmstadt. On July 27, 1948 three men wearing US Army MP uniforms took "custody" of Skorzeny on the pretext of taking him to legal proceedings at Nuremberg. This was how he escaped from the Allies.
For the next 18 months Otto Skorzeny hid on a Barvarian farm owned by Countess Ilse Luthje-the niece of Hjalmar Schacht. While hiding there Skorzeny had contacts with Reinhard Gehlen and other Operation PAPERCLIP operatives.

I'll post some more about these hidden history connections later.
I ask those of you DUer's that take an interest in these things for a contribution to this thread.
