There was one in my neighborhood when I was growing up in the 60s in Manhattan. This store had all sorts of religious statues in the window, but they also sold herbs, teas, etc., supposedly to "cure" different ailments. The word among teens was that they also sold a potion which would induce an abortion.

I guess the idea goes way back, and is certainly now making a comeback.
