As some one who's worked with real disabled people on one hand and seen welfare parasites on the other, I think if we could find a way to localise welfare intelligently it would do a world of good: If people could see the real disabled people their money was personally feeding, there would be no complaints, and they'd feel great about all they do. On the other hand, if people learned of welfare parasites collecting SSI while living off the taxpayers, they would be pariahs, instead of the status quo, where it seems an abstract crime against the distant "government" instead of against you and I, and they get left alone.
