One of the most dishonest ploys which the right uses frequently is to deflect attention away from themselves and redirect towards their accusers. They will try to escape responsibility for their own actions is to using a false equivalency argument. They will claim that both sides do it, when in fact there is no comparison on the left which even comes close to the racism and bigotry which we see on the right. I would be a fool if I was to say that racism does not exist in the Democratic Party, however this video was meant to address the extreme racial hatred demonstrated by the tea parties. One must note, where there are still Democrats who hold racist feelings, no one demonstrated against Allen West with racial signs or slogans.
I would like to explore the problem of racism as it infects so much of America. Many may not hold overt racial feelings and yet racism still exists. In the video I pointed out how referring to African Americans as monkeys has been a racial slur for years, what these right wingers do is instead of admitting to a mistake and correcting it, they try to justify that racism which they must recognize at the time or they would not try to excuse it by saying there were pictures of Bush as a monkey as well. To my knowledge no one has tried to demean the white race as being anything less than human, but this has been done countless times to Blacks. The fact is that racism has been employed by the Republicans ever since Nixon's Southern strategy. If the Right wished to have an honest discussion about racism, they would need to first be willing to accept the fact that most of the disdain for this president is race-based and then they would have to face the need for change. I said in the video that the Tea Party gets angry when their racism is exposed, when they should be angry that there is any racism to be exposed. With that we could and I hope will talk at some point about the whole complexity of racism.
