It's advantageous to employers/big corps/billionaires for employees and job seekers to be DESPERATE. It's a buyer's/employer's market. They can be as choosy as they want, pay as low as they want (if it weren't for that pesky minimum wage which they all want to get rid of so they can pay people even less), demand college degrees to flip burgers - be as assinine as they like and mistreat employees as much as they want, knowing they'll stick around because they are so desperate for work.

High unemployment not only makes the hated Obama the alleged "socialist" look bad by keeping "his" economy anemic, but it keeps the wealthy corprats in control and able to keep their wages lower because so many desperate people are out of work - corprats LOVE that. It's another way in which they demonstrate their abject and unmitigated GREED.
