In reply to the discussion: Pic Of The Moment: Conservatives Shocked And Disgusted By Utterly Inoffensive Coca Cola Ad [View all]Moonwalk
(2,322 posts)Which is to say that, unlike soccer, American football is not watched globally. It features a game played almost exclusively in America with only American teams. Hence, commercials played during the Superbowl are rarely intended for a global audience. Add to this the song "America," a patriotic hymn sung exclusively by Americans, and we can conclude that though Coca-cola is global, the ad was not. The ad was "American" for Americans.
Which is why conservative viewers who think: American = white men who speak English are pissed. Because this is commercial had that patriotic hymn performed in languages other than English (some would consider that sacrilege) and featured people who who were not white men (or at least not all in uniform, which is the only way conservatives accept multiculturalism).
Does that clear up the confusionor didn't I understand your question?
