Whether their anti-independence propaganda will do the trick, or if it eventually does come down to NATO tanks, the English elites will never let those Scottish oil reserves go. They may have been willing to share some of the revenue with a puppet government in Scotland, but I doubt they will ever agree to relinquish complete control over such strategic riches to another sovereign nation.
