the empowered elite realized that humans are fundamentally stupid creatures and will believe pretty much anything that someone who resembles an authority figure tells them. that principal is used to implement the divide and conquer strategy of economic disenfranchisement.

see, Americans are alright if you can isolate one of them and talk sense to them, usually they'll behave reasonably and recognize logic and reason, even if they can't seem to understand what exactly it is that they are recognizing. they'll nod their heads in a somewhat disoriented fashion and say something like "well, things just are the way they are".
