(2,194 posts)Really now - what can you expect from a guy who looks like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family? The guy is caught in his own self-made trap of shame, sin and guilt for what he has done, and he's trying to assuage his own personal guilt by advocating for abortion bans, and making us pay the price.
But hey, wait a minute - if his Lord and Savior Jesus paid the ultimate ransom for all his sins on the cross at Calvary according to his fundamentalist theology, why in the heck does he even need us, the American public, to be the scapegoats to assuage his guilt? Didn't Jesus already let him off the hook? Could someone please explain that one to me?
All this reminds me of a comical discussion I had with some young Romanians on the beach on the Black Sea coast, in the early '90s, right after the fall of communism. I told this young Romanian guy the story about Jimmy Swaggart, and how he got caught with his pants down seeing prostitutes, and how he made his tearful, lip biting apology on national TV saying, "My Lord, I have sinned against you!" The guy's jaw dropped, and he stared at me in incredulous disbelief for the longest time. When he finally spoke, I'll never forget the words that came out of his mouth: "...but I thought that America was an advanced nation!"
