(6,409 posts)When I was about 12 years old, I tuned in one of those 50,000 watt stations from the south on a Sunday night. I thought it was a comedy sketch of some guy screaming about hell fire and eternal torment and all that. Then it went on. And on. And on. I figured out this guy was serious, and I was fascinated. I listened to him, and the guy who followed him, until radio propagation finally went bad and the signal faded away. I asked my friends about this, and none of them had ever heard of such a thing, except a couple kids who admitted they snuck up and listened to the Pentacostals speaking in tongues. Yes, people take this stuff seriously in certain places. They believe the Lord will punish them here on earth for the bad things they do. Oddly, they don't think individual bad persons are punished for specific bad deeds. Instead, they believe God brings down floods and fire and pestilence on the entire community for allowing lesbian witches to practice among them.
