(57,936 posts)The most popular news shows get the most air time. Is that how it works?
And when newscasters whip the country into a frenzy about going to war against, say Iraq, and one lone newscaster refuses to go along with the folly of the moment, that newscaster is fired because "he is getting low ratings" with this stuff opposing the War in Iraq. Let's get rid of him.
The news is supposed to be about the TRUTH.
When a news station fires the one newscaster who is speaking out on issues the owners of the news media don't want discussed, it looks suspiciously like they are more interested in broadcasting propaganda than news.
Fox is extremely popular. Should all media look and sound like Fox and tell its story. No. The responsibility of a journalist is beyond pleasing his/her bosses or even the public. It is s telling the straight truth, no holds or unpleasant truths barred.
Ed Schultz was doing that. Always. His firing was, even if excused by low ratings, a political move. Yet another tightening of the ideological noose around the nation by an out-of-control right wing, tiny segment of our population.
It's ugly out there.
DUers should be boycotting cable. You can watch lots of programming without subscribing. I don't know much about Dish TV, but do you have to pay for Fox if you subscribe to Dish?
I'm waiting for cable or Dish that allows ME TO DECIDE WHAT SHOWS I WANT TO SUBSCRIBE TO. Sounds like the internet doesn't it.
This is yet another move by the oligarchy to tighten the noose it has on our thoughts, information and ideas.
