...last night as an intro speaker for Sanders in Manhattan. He said that there are a lot of Democrats who favor Sanders but are misinformed about Sanders' chances in November and other related issues. (Sanders, of course, beats Trump by twice Clinton's margin in national polls and has been doing so for months--because he DRAWS independents and new voters).
Robbins said, basically: Reach out to these Democrats. Inform them. Tell them what's going on in the favorability and trustworthy polls (Clinton very low, Sanders very high), and the matchups with Republicans. (Sanders beats them all; Clinton lose to several). Sanders REALLY IS the best candidate for the GE, and he will most certainly have coattails as well.
Nobody else has mentioned this, except Robbins' former wife, Susan Sarandon, who said something similar not long ago. I read an interview of her about a month ago in which she said she had been recruiting women in the entertainment business for Sanders, and many said to her that they favor Sanders but are afraid to say so. What are you afraid of? she asked. They answered that they were afraid of "being shamed." I won't go into what this strange response might mean in liberal circles in Hollywood. My point is that both she and Tim have found "hidden" Sanders supporters, whether these potential Sanders voters need better information or need bolstering up.
DO NOT ASSUME that Clinton voters are locked in. Many are not.
They need to know the evidence that Sanders will do much better than Clinton in November, that she is the one with trouble ahead in the GE, and they need to know that the political culture in the Democratic Party is already changing, and when Sanders wins the GE, will change dramatically. There will be no "shame" in having supported a New Deal presidency. The McCarthyism (fear politics) that may be at work in Hollywood, or wherever that is at work, will go away (or will at least go underground).
