(6,960 posts)Excellent post.
I am a Baby Boomer who recognizes the advantages I have had because of two important things: the era during which I was born and the wonderful parents/family into which I was born. My older sister (love teasing her about that) and I talk about this all the time as we worry about our grown children and now the grands whose lives will be totally different from ours... as we worry about the earth; the climate; the quality of our air, food and water; the proliferation of weapons and war.
We are the lucky ones, but we lament what this nation has become and what the Democratic Party has become since the Clintons helped create the DLC. We are Bernie Boomers all the way and were mightily depressed after the NY results, especially the margin of HRC's victory. How can so many be so willfully blind
Your thread is so important because I see the embodiment of your words in many of my friends, especially the childless ones. They are reaping the benefits of real Democratic (FDR, LBJ) legacies. They have Medicare and SS, were educated at a time when education (even at elite schools) was affordable and didn't saddle a person with debt equivalent to a mortgage. They had rewarding jobs with pensions. And they were able to purchase homes when housing didn't consume such a large percentage of income or require such ghastly commutes from an affordable location to in-town work.
The childless ones don't have to worry about the future, and many just want to see a woman POTUS in their lifetime with no regard for the fact that HRC is the wrong woman! Some point out appointments to the USSC, but when corporations are elevated to personhood and rule everything... control government, education, healthcare, etc. then USSC is in the hands of and for the benefit of the corporation regardless of who occupies the White House.
Anyway, great post... and belated welcome to DU
