In reply to the discussion: Protester tries to attack Bernie Sanders at Oakland California Rally (5-30-16) [View all]SunSeeker
(58,364 posts)Seems like a fair question. They were not threatening Sanders. They did not "rush" Sanders. They did not even get on the stage. The two girls just held onto each other at the front of the seating area and shouted their protest. The two guys were in the aisle. Sanders did not even acknowledge their cause, even though he must have heard what the girls were shouting and thus must have known what they were protesting about.
Instead, Sanders responds with a boast that "we don't get intimidated easily." Yeah Bernie, if I had a football team worth of Secret Service agents not letting anyone near the stage, I wouldn't be intimidated easily either. And why did he assume they were "intimidating" him? In his statement responding to his supporters rioting at the Nevada state Dem convention, he defended their "right to protest." That is all these 4 kids appeared to be doing.
I remember when the Secret Service did a similar thing to protesters at one of Hillary's rallies (although there they merely led them out instead of carrying them out). Some folks here thought it was over the top and authoritarian, claiming the protesters should have been allowed to speak. But there, Hillary acknowledged the protesters and made it clear she supported there cause, if not their interruption.
That is all this was. An interruption. It was just 4 kids trying to get attention for their animal rights cause. Claiming it was some sort of "attack" or "intimidation" sounds really over the top if not downright paranoid.
