Seconded by 'everything' that is threatening Christianity and God, pick a subject - Homosexuals (Much love 4 u peeps!), Marriage, Obama, porn and even the Internet itself.
If you ask me, the real reason is that people are moving on from archaic thinking because of technology, knowledge and information. On that note, I think it is very likely that the Internet is to blame for 'Killing Religion' - as an Atheist, sounds good to me.
Scapegoats! They never get old!
EDIT:
The other thing that is really big right now is politicians scapegoating a subject, missing the real problems. I know that's a big vague, however, relevant. Climate Change, law enforcement, etc.
