"Random Acts of Culture" drive me up the wall with pleasure.

Back in the 30's part of the New Deal, in its original form, was strong financial support for the arts and humanities. Orchestras and theaters could afford to give free performances for their communities, and people who might have never stepped out of their fields or offices otherwise got the opportunity to enjoy the arts.

The difference between us and the rest of the world, is that the rest of the world actually has this thing called "leisure." Americans are usually so busy trying to keep their heads above the water that, for the most part, we simpoly don't have time for this sort of stuff. We definitely would if we could, though.
