...wing of our party, which I rather regard as the equivalent of the creationist wing of those awful people on the other side.

We don't admit it to ourselves - although there's nothing intrinsically wrong with self criticism - but we have very severe scientific weaknesses in the Democratic Party, and this is among them.

We have a world to feed in a time of rapid climate change, the magnitude of which is escaping public attention. I simply cannot seek to further this kind of rote anti-GMO rhetoric in our party. I regard it as extremely dangerous in these very challenging times.
