Another case (non-racial). I've often wondered why they casted Michelle Pfeiffer as a Russian woman (passable accent, horrible Russian) in "The Russia House," when there was an abundance of outstanding, English fluent, Russian actresses available.

Then there are allowable exceptions. Alan Arkin and Theo Bikel were outstanding Russians (excellent diction) in "The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming" (1966). I believe Bikel speaks Russian. Arkin apparently learned his lines phonetically. Amazing!
