the big station in Hartford was WTIC AM 1080. It is a 50,000 watt station. For over 50 years, they had a guy named Bob Steele in the mornings, but after he retired, he was replaced by a right winter named Ray Dunaway, who's been there for probably 20 years now. He wasn't a hardcore right winger, but he was big on climate change denial and against political correctness. For a long time, he was paired up with a former local TV personality named Diane Sawyer. It was like the radio version of Morning Joe - the outspoken male Republican and the quieter moderate Democrat. The morning show was frequently more about local events, local sports and weather, but Dunaway would always get some political comments on the air, though he was generally fair when a state Democratic politician came on for an appearance - no ambush type questions.

In the middle of the day, they had hard corer RWer Jim Vicevich, a local guy, and then Rush Limbaugh. But, after that, they had local liberal Hartford Courant columnist and funny guy Colin McEnroe from 3pm to 6pm each night, McEnroe was their highest rated show they had.

But, following the 2008 election, the station purged the two Democrats - Sawyer in the morning and McEnroe in the afternoon. Dunaway became a solo show and McEnroe was replaced by disgraced Republican John Rowland, the former governor who resigned in the face of impending impeachment. So, they axed their highest rated show and replaced him with a convict.

So, even when a liberal is successful, he gets stabbed in the back. I haven't listened to the station since.
