They seem to be concerned about their economic prospects as much as, if not more than, anything else? They don't buy into either of the two parties because of legalized corruption that our political and electoral systems have made so blatantly obvious. Hell, they don't buy into national elections as it is now!
Democracy is at stake because of "pains of the working class". Bernie's needle isn't stuck so much as it's a problem that he began speaking out about 35 years ago and has only gotten worse over those 35 years. He's not the only one who noticed or continues to be deeply concerned about this problem. This is about democracy in the end.

I doubt Trump's judges are gonna overturn Citizens United. All Dem candidates wanted it overturned

There is no scenario in which ANY Dem becomes president after a Trump impeachment.
