because they are devoted Christians and god listens to their prayers.

Will they all go to the nearest bridge and jump off... and pray that their god will make them fly?

They can pray all the way down.

God will answer their prayers just like he will answer the prayers about global climate change.

If somehow god doesn't answer their prayer, they need to keep sending people over the bridge until he listens.
