He assumes that his religion is the only one that is right and true. That he knows God's will better than most. And by golly, he's going to thump his gold-embossed bible in your face and punish you if you don't conform. In another time, men like Pence herded Jews into death camps, burned villages in pogroms, and served the Inquisition to burn heretics at the stake. They also crucified people, who didn't lick the ass of the powerful. He's a real "my way" or "the hi way to hell" sort of guy.

He epitomized the degenerate state of the Christian church today.
