1. I'm reading this guy's book right now (Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire).

It's a real eye-opener. All along I've thought that the conditions of life in the US has made us too susceptible to propaganda of all kinds and made the purveyors of propaganda way too powerful with ads, the internet, reality TV, etc., and that the outcome was not gonna be pretty. This guy has outlined how this happened. His book reminded me of a 45-year-old book called "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" by Jerry Mander, which advanced the idea that TV itself was causing changes in the human brain and in the social sphere that would have bad effects for the future of rationality itself. He was right, and so is this guy.
