(3,515 posts)and the Second Amendment that guarantees the right to possess weapons.
People who interpret the Second Amendment to prohibit the government from regulating the rights of gun owners criticize the FBI because it did not adequately regulate the right of a person who was exercising his First Amendment right (and here I am interpreting the First Amendment as literally and absolutely as the gun rights advocates interpret the Second Amendment) to threaten others on the internet and perhaps in person.
If the FBI should have regulated the First Amendment right of the shooter when he threatened to kill (and I think local child protection authorities should have helped and stopped this young man many years before the events in the school), why can't they regulate the Second Amendment rights of all of us and outlaw the possession of these unnecessary, brutal killer weapons -- including AR-15 and all similar weapons?
Why can the First Amendment rights be subject to reasonable regulation, but the Second Amendment rights can't?
That makes no sense to me.
