The Great Depression and Dust Bowl storms drove him, broke and broken, from that homestead after 31 years of excruciating labor. My mom, born there in 1919, told me and my brother of the miseries of life during those times, describing the terror of those dust storms in great detail.

I hope that I'm wrong in my observation that we appear to be teetering on both those calamities, dust bowl and depression, again.
