6. We had Republican representation for as long as I can remember

As I said, they seldom even had an opponent. That was until 2006 when Kirsten Gillibrand defeated the long time Republican incumbent with the help of President Clinton. It was pretty exciting to have an actual POTUS come to this little burg and there was standing room only at their major campaign event! She was very popular here, but then the governor appointed her as senator when Senator Hillary Clinton became President Obama's Secretary of State. I worked on the campaign for her chosen successor, Scott Murphy, very smart, serious and he's local! He won his first election, but lost the second, then we got redistricted. The very moderate Democrat who held the seat retired and we've been stuck with the Paul Ryan protegee ever since. However, she's very unpopular here so I'm hoping that the "blue wave" will reach us in Northeastern New York!
