populism vs. fundamentalism. Both run deep in Texas. Clearly the Cruz campaign, and some elements of the Republican party, fear Beto O'Rourke. Cruz is disliked by a significant portion of the population, and they are also angry at him for the things he's said and done, his demeanor (which to me seems sniveling priggish self-importance), and his support of Trump. Beto has momentum, Cruz has Texas-hold-em-as-hard-as-you-can. Beto has ideas, Cruz has ideology.

Turnout will be very important, obviously, the more so because Cruz has peaked and has no upside at this point. It's a race no sane man can predict, but my hunch is Beto by a .14% squeaker in a last minute surge. It's a throw-the-bums-out year.
