3. Sexuality. like our personalities,

is based on the neuronic hardwiring of our brains. We don't choose to be sexual, just as we don't choose to be who we are. Yes, we can make some changes to our personalities, if we really want to and if we work hard enough on it. But that wanting is also hardwired, and doesn't ultimately affect the underlying realities of our existence. "Gay therapy" has never worked.

Even spiritual enlightenment does not change this. Alan Ginsburg's guru/teacher, Trungpa Rinpoche, was an alcoholic. Ginsburg himself was gay. Yet they still understood the spiritual bases underlying the Universe. But their basic hardwiring didn't change.

Conservatives are, of course, wrong in their viewpoint. There is some underlying fear in their lives driving this viewpoint. They are afraid of who they are. So they strike out at others--particularly at those they consider to be what they fear about themselves.

I offer J Edgar Hoover as an example. Was he gay? No one knows. But he was not above using homosexual accusations against his opponents. Why?

As an old man, born in the conservative 1950s, I applaud the current Millennial Generation's acceptance of others. Whatever else one might say about this group, they at least understand the rudiments of humanity, and behave towards others with empathy and compassion. One might even say they don't give a damn about who someone is attracted to.

Conservatives could benefit from this lesson.
