Most of our social stuff, the tolerance for gays and respect for the rights of women as human beings, has become part of the culture. Our economic stuff provoked a plutocratic backlash that cursed this country with Republicans and conservative Democrats. Sorry about that, but we didn't vote for them.

Still, research into renewable energy has been starved but not abolished. Research into cooperative living instead of competitive living is ongoing. We're now old and battered, but we're still fighting all those good fights whenever we can.

What we did, change the social narrative from regimentation, segregation and repression into relative freedom and mutual respect, was nothing short of astonishing. That it is still incomplete is just the human condition.

I have hope that the kids coming along now will reject the materialism of the later Boomers and Gen X and take up where we left off. It's their fight now.
