and it's doubtful if the U.S. will every hold quite the position it did in the past. Very sad. Not only for us .. but around the world.

(while we were maybe never quite the beacon of light we liked to pretend we were .. we were at least a solid ally, and a proponent of progress and positive change in many parts of the world.)
