8. It's beyond horrible

When I was a kid i thought that when my generation grew up, racism would end. It isn't that I approve of the rioting or violence, but the murders just don't end. I think this sort of violence only scares some white racists into doubling down on their racism and helps police feel more threatened and leads to more violence, but hell, peaceful protests and vigils haven't done any good either, have they?
I wish I had done more in my white privileged life, I do, but I don't even know what else I could have done. I've never allowed anyone to say racist things without vehement arguments, I've gone to protests and vigils and written letters to editors and worked to elect people who are not virulent racists like Donald Trump. But none of it helps. I'm with Brooke Baldwin. I feel helpless, and I'm grieving, and on top of everything else this damned virus is killing people of color more than white people.
It's just all too terrible.
America is a country that was founded on an original sin of slavery and racist genocide. Perhaps we deserve to pay for that, but it looks like the wrong people just keep paying.
If anyone has any ideas of what else we can do, please tell me.
