partly because of the Dukakis campaign, partly because of the Kerry campaign. You can only get burned so many times before you learn to pull your hand from the damn fire.

Hit back, act fast, define your opponent early in the race. Seems pretty simple in retrospect, but Obama is the first Dem I've seen do it effectively.
