4. Oh boy, that must have been rough on your Dad and your grandfather

Families often had such tough times back then. My grandmother (father's mother) lost her own mother at age 13, but was lucky to also have her grandmother. She married and had 4 children, but then lost her husband (never knew my grandfather) a week past her 40th birthday (heart attack at 48) when my Dad was only 12 and his youngest brother was only 3. But she was amazingly strong, had become a teacher herself, and education was most important to her, all 4 of her kids graduated from college. She had a big influence on my life and I wish that I could be more like her. She died in September 1998, 11 days before her 98th birthday - and I miss her still.
