it bounced like a small stack of paper-clipped index cards.

I tried it and it damn well bounces on a hard surface with one or two paperclips. You clip them to keep them from separating as you remove them from your pocket. They bounce every time. More so if they have been curved from holding them. I used some fresh from a new pack and some slightly curved ones from note my daughter uses for test prep. Bounce bounce bounce. Not scientific but all I wanted to do was duplicate the movement. It is pretty hard to get index cards out of your pocket with them being bound is some way, even ones that have been cut down to a smaller than original size.
