5. Some of the segments of the race were filmed at Santa Anita, those with the mountains in....

....in the background and the palm trees were obviously there. But other segments were at Keeneland - there are fleeting views of the Keeneland grandstand. They're both similar in construction and color. They also used several other racetracks in the filming, notably older tracks at the time - Saratoga and now closed Pomona (not far from Santa Anita)

Being a degenerate, I'm either proud or ashamed to say that I've been to all of them!!!

BTW, the jockey that was talking to Red Pollard during the race, George Woolf, wasn't an actor. He was actually jockey Gary Stevens, one of the best in history.
