3. Absolutely, although I think the problem is not with science...

I think the problem is not with science, but rather with human nature.

The best part is where Jon says the famous last words of a scientist before humanity is exterminated by something created in a science lab:

"Heh heh! It worked!"

He also makes a valid point that the first application of atomic energy was not to generate electricity for the benefit of all, but rather to create an atomic bomb that could still wipe out humanity. It really makes one wonder, no?
