In reply to the discussion: These Hospitalized COVID patients still refuse to get vaccinated [View all]forgotmylogin
(7,954 posts)3. Does surviving COVID equal the protection from a vaccine?
I understand that there may be huge complications for the individual from potential long-Covid symptoms, but if they get the virus and survive then I presume they have antibodies built up. Is further inoculation better or just another teaspoon of water in the river?

CDC:
Yes, you should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19.

Researchers say people whove had COVID-19 but remain unvaccinated are more likely to develop the disease again than those whove been vaccinated.
They note that people who developed COVID-19 last year probably didnt have the Delta variant.
They add that theres a possibility that people whove had COVID-19 may need only one dose of vaccine, although that issue needs more study.

USA Today:
Although antibodies from natural infection may provide some protection against the virus, evidence shows nothing protects against COVID-19 better than vaccines.
