It's usually some "neutral" channel, like one of those that show refurbishing houses. But I know her politics since we've discussed it - and her 20-something assistant feels the same way. I've gone to the same dentist since the '80s, and she's treated and knows most of my family. But I never knew her politics, never thought to discuss that with her - though I was actually in the dentist's chair on 9/11! She had the TV on CNN and I kept seeing that second plane hitting the WTC over and over! I walked out of there afraid the world was about to end and that was a wake up call to start really paying a lot more attention to what was going on in the world.

I eventually found DU (early 2003) and I've certainly learned a lot here. And I once mentioned that I'd been in the dentist's chair on 9/11 and whoever I replied to asked me if I'd ever discussed that with my dentist. I hadn't, so the next time I went in, I brought it up. And that's how I found out that she's a serious Democrat and we've often discussed elections and the state of the country ever since.
