Appointees of elected officials must be accountable to the public. It's not a matter of voluntary vs forced submittal to accountability that is at issue. It is, instead, the unavoidability of accountability and assured consequences for malfeasance in office. Derailing this fundamental element nullifies the people's trust in government specifically and, thus, generally.
