His flip flopping could work to his advantage in a couple of ways.

Moderate Republicans and Independents who may have liked the 'Old' Mitt may have the mindset "well, I think he really does believe in his heart the way I do and is just doing what he needs to do to get elected. Once elected, he will be more like me".
Far right Republicans who like the 'New' Mitt may have the mindset "He has seen the light and now is more like me".

I would not put much stock in ads like this when it comes to Republicans. "Flip Flopping" does not seem to be high on their priority list for reasons not to vote for someone.

IMO, I think it would be better to take him at his word NOW and target those moderates and independents towards the social issues.
