2. Northeastern New York, where I am, recently had the most serious outbreak in the nation

And, not unexpectedly, it spread downstate to New York City. We had a mask mandate for well over a year and people got used to it, Then it was rescinded last summer, just in time for "tourist season," since all tourist venues remained closed down the previous summer. That led to another outbreak so the mask mandate was reinstated only to have it rescinded again a few weeks later. If only it had remained in place when people were used to it, this might have mitigated the outbreak, but now very few will put up with it being reinstated again. I still see a few masks, but as far as most people are concerned, the pandemic is over. And "tourist season" is right around the corner...
