Living in a metropolitan area, the vaccine was available for you sooner than it was for those of us in the New York North Country. People kept checking, as everyone did in those days, but the only places in New York State where it was available was New York City (6 hours away) or on the completely other side of the state. My friend who teaches made the latter trip,
I have two friends who work in the local hospital and they were the first I knew who got it in January of 2021. They had to drive an hour downstate to a major hospital (Capital area) to get the Pfizer and got a $100 bonus for their effort. When it was finally available locally - Moderna at CVS - my friend tried to contact me, but I was unbelievably in the dentist's chair at the time, so I missed out, appointments filled up so fast. But I finally got it on the last day of February at a CVS a half hour downstate - and made my appointment there for the second shot.
Of course, after that, it was available at every pharmacy, pharmacies in supermarkets and Walmart - and a large clinic was set up in the old Sears store at the local mall. I convinced my brother to go there - drove him for the first two and he surprised me by going himself to get his first booster. But that's closed down now.
It sounds like this next round is going to be more easily available, they've had practice by now. So I'm hoping to get the next one locally this time. I just hope that you stay well and that the indoor weather and school openings don't result in anymore "surges." But thanks to TFG, we still have the anti-vaxxers. We have them here in New York, too. *sigh*
