6. In 2016, I had not yet retired. I remember

telling some coworkers that Trump was dangerous because of his fascist leanings. I was re-reading an old biography of Hitler at the time, paying special attention to how he got into power.

I tried pointing out similarities, but all my co-workers could think of in regard to Hitler were the death camps. It's all they knew about him. They had no clue about the process of developing the Nazi party and getting control of the country.

I tried to explain that Nazism did not suddenly spring up out of nowhere. It was a long, relentless process. They wrote off what I said as hysteria and nonsense.

I sometimes wonder today if they remember what I said 6 years ago. I am not in touch with them on any regular basis, although occasionally I run into former co-workers when shopping. Usually we chat about personal matters, updating each other. Next time, I will ask what they think about Trump and fascism today.
