3. Meanwhile, things in Russia are getting downright Kafkaesque

as their "partial" mobilization breaks all their own laws surrounding military callups. They're seemingly calling men at random, exempted men in college, in essential work, men who thought they'd aged out, men with families and businesses to run. No one knows who's going to get one of those callup letters and social media is full of videos of tearful family goodbyes, women and kids knowing they might never see their husband and father again.

It was announced today that Russia will never prevent men from traveling, so everybody knows what that means and a lot are trying to get out while they can.

Support for this war was always a mile wide and an inch deep, people willing to play the semantics game and stay out of trouble until trouble decided to find them. It has.

As for Lavrov defecting, I rather doubt it, he was one of Putin's original war cheerleaders and I don't know who'd take him.
