3. Here's the thing (IMO)

The United States is now - finally - electorally and politically - BECOMING that which it was always advertised to be: a giant melting-pot of different races and nationalities, all having some semblance of equality, liberty, freedom and the land of equal opportunity for all.

The US has always CLAIMED to have "equality" for all but in reality, it hasn't (and still doesn't in too many ways). But it has been largely white heterosexual males who have had ALL the power and say politically and electorally. They dominated everything - the political makeup of the nation (electorate), the power structure, the business infrastructure. Everything. They made the rules everyone else was subjected to - legally, politically, socially.

No more. THAT is what is changing and has slowly been changing over the history of this nation as the electorate was expanded through hard fought battles to include women and blacks, asians and latinos - everyone. If you look at who all is voting now, it's clear that the US is FINALLY becoming what it has always purported itself to be. EVERYONE is voting and making their voices heard via the ballot box. EVERYONE has the power therein to shape this country. That is as it should be. THAT is Democracy.

And to see these old curmudgeons FIGHTING that every step of the way: suppressing the vote, playing dirty tricks with machine counts, diddling with registrations and ballots, cutting voting hours, implementing newfangled Jim Crow laws (Voter ID), all while claiming that what is happening is "unfair, unAmerican, cheating, voter fraud", etc. etc. is just jaw-dropping.

They always say "we want to take our country back!".



Back to WHAT? Back to a time when only white males could own property and vote and make all the rules and run everything?

THAT is not what America was advertised to be. It was advertised to be "land of liberty". PERIOD. It wasn't advertised to be "land of liberty for white guys who own land".

Now that America is finally BECOMING that which it has always aspired to be and claimed to be, these guys want to STOP the whole process and slam it into REVERSE!

I don't think America is going to stop BECOMING America just because these old farts don't like it all of a sudden when women, blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc. etc. have POWER via the vote and the ballot box to shape this country.

Forget that shit. This is WHY Barack Obama's Presidency is and has been and will be so incredibly historic. This man and his life; his heritage and his Presidency - and particularly the election we were all just part of - is the first glimpse of our America - the REAL America - becoming EVERYTHING America has always claimed to be, promised to be and aspires to be. This is why the ONE word that he used as the basis for his campaign was:

F O R W A R D

There's no going back now. Nor should there be any going back. No way. It's just not going to happen.
