This is a hard wired trait in the human psyche.

Obviously present since the beginning of human existence.

Humans loathe living in captivity under brutal conditions.

But yes Putin's goal is to totally destroy Ukraine so that it will never
function as a country again. NATO will not want it. No hope as
a functioning country on any level is Putin's goal.
